SARA is customer intelligence and retention software for dance studios.
It is in active development and is not yet generally available. What follows is what SARA is being built to do, and the decisions that shape it.
The problem it addresses
A studio’s records show what a family did — enrolments, attendance, payments. They do not show what a family thinks, or why it left. By the time a decision to leave appears as a dropped enrolment, it has already been taken.
SARA is for asking while the family is still there to answer.
How it works
- A studio sends a short message to its families, from its own email domain rather than from a SARA-branded one.
- The message asks one question — how likely the family is to recommend the studio, on a scale of 0 to 10 — as eleven links, so answering takes one tap. Two free-text questions follow, both optional.
- Each answer is stored against a snapshot of that family taken at the moment the message was sent: their dancers, programs, classes, instructors and how long they had been enrolled. A report about last spring reads last spring’s facts, not today’s.
- The owner opens a worklist of named families to contact — each with their score, what they wrote, and somewhere to record what was done about it.
What it will not do
These are decisions already taken and recorded, not gaps waiting to be filled.
- It will not show a score it cannot support. Any figure comes with the number of responses behind it and a 95% confidence interval. Where a segment has too few responses to compare honestly, SARA says so instead of printing a number.
- No model reads or writes a family’s answer. Free-text comments are read and tagged by a person. Nothing is scored, summarised or predicted by a machine.
- It never writes back to the studio’s management system. SARA reads a public catalog; it is not capable of altering the system of record.
- There is no student-facing surface. The survey is addressed to a family’s adult contact. There is no dancer login and no student app, by design.
Who built it
SARA is designed, built and maintained by Cooper Sellers, working independently.
